He is survived by: his wife Kathy DeLeon; his children, Shada Hamilton (Chad), Janice Smith (Audie), Linda Hackfeld (Mark) and Basil J. J. Whitaker III (Missy); his brothers, Eugene DeLeon (Mary) and John DeLeon (Sally); his brothers-in-law, Mearl Harper (Donna) and James Harper (Rita); his grandchildren, Christopher DeLeon, Shyla Tanksley, Jackson Whitaker, Asher Whitaker, Nathan Smith, Evan Smith, Hadyn Bishop, Averie Bishop and Zachary Hackfeld; and his great grandchildren, Caleb Smith and Tyler Smith. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
