She was predeceased by: her parents, Henry T. Woodward and Icie G. Woodward; her husbands, Russell W. Varner and O. M. Esslinger, Jr.; her siblings, Catherine W. Kitchens, Ernest Woodward and Rev. Travis Woodward; and her daughter Margaret.

She is survived by: her children, Vance Varner (Sandy) of Gonzales, Mike Esslinger (Kathy) of Tuscaloosa and Janet E. Moore (Allen) of Huntsville; and her grandchildren, Holly M. Miskowiec, Tanna V. Ray, David Moore and Adam Varner. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren.
