He was predeceased by: his parents, Ben Roy Strain and Willie "Billie" Brashier; his stepfather Lanier Brashier; his siblings, Ben Roy "Sonny" Strain, Jr. and Carolyn Kelly; and his nephew Chance Morris.

He is survived by: his wife Mary-Ellen; his siblings, Faye Morris (Hubert), Johnny Strain (Doris) and Duane Strain (Michelle); and his sister-in-law Pat Strain. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
