He was predeceased by: his parents, Lloyd M. Helms and Kate Helms; and his sister Violet Mae Helms. He is survived by: his wife Paulla Helms; his daughter Melanie Helms MD; his son-in-law Phillip Gilson MD; his son Army Retired Major Paul "Eddie"; his daughter-in-law Kelly Helms; his daughter Michelle Helms Duskey; his son-in-law Michael Duskey; his granddaughter Mandy Weaver; his great grandchild Weaver of Indiana; and his pet Rowdy. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nephews, friends.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made in Major Helms name to the Disabled American Veterans organization (https: //http://www.dav.org) or to the Gary Sinise Foundation (https: //http://www.garysinisefoundation.org) specifically to the R.I.S.E.
