He is survived by: his sons, Ray Charles Wells, Lornell Bates (Joan) and Stanley Martin; his grandchildren, Sarah Goffney (late Gerald), Mary Hobson (late Jerome), Wilesta Shaw (Ronald), Wilette Swington, Shannon Brown and Tabatha Wells (Michael); and his sister Rosie Bates Davillier (late Michael Davillier). He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, devoted friends, and caring neighbors.
