It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of James Alton Prather of Colfax, Louisiana, who passed away on July 31, 2025, at the age of 68, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his mother Jewell Prather; his parents-in-law, Harolean Stuckey and Bill Carlton; his brother Mike Prather; his sisters-in-law, Jean Prather and Shirley Manuel; his son-in-law Odess Bush; and his pets, Sassy, Polly and Trouble.
He is survived by: his wife Margie "Denise" Prather; his children, Chris Carlton, Cody Prather (Lynn), Natalie Smith (Mike), Tabitha Bush, Stephanie Carlton and Paul Bunn; his brothers, Joe Prather and Mark Prather (Renee); and his siblings-in-law, Monica Player (Carl), Shannon Vilo (David) and Roy Carlton. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 9th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Main Street Baptist Worship Center (312 Main St, Pineville, LA 71360).
