He was predeceased by : his mother Lois Franklin Brownell; his wife Barbara Sanchez Brownell; and his brother Lacy Earl Brownell. He is survived by : his friend Christal Medaries; his children, Sammy Brownell, Alison Brownell Martinez (Frank) and Jimmy Brownell (Leigh Ann); his sister Melva Brownell David; and his grandchildren, Leah Brownell, Kasey Brownell Strong (JT), Colt Ross, Justin Ross, Levi Martinez and Samantha Brownell Duke.
