He is survived by: his children, John Charles Istre (Luanne), Barbara Jean Wickert, Jennifer Lynn Porche (Norman) and Jeremy Lee Istre; his grandchildren, Lindsey Bell (Caleb), Jason Istre and Mark Istre (Callie); his great grandchildren, Isaac Bell, Ben Bell, Ari Bell, Hayes Istre and Collum Istre; his sister Gaynell "Pie" Satterfield; and his brother-in-law Peter Wallenfang (Linda).
During his professional career he was affiliated with several medical institutions including Charity Hospital, Ochsner Foundation Hospital, Keesler Air Force Base, and the United States Public Health Hospital.
