He was predeceased by: his parents, Hubert Smith and Norah Ernst Smith. He is survived by: his wife Jean Larene Sellmeyer Smith of Crowley; and his children, Kathryn S. Ames of Dallas, TX, Elizabeth S. Nehrbass (Kim) of Lafayette, Doug Smith (Melissa) of Morse and Phil Smith (Margaret) of Jennings. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
