She was predeceased by: her husband Fred Bass; her sons, James Douglas Burgess and Randal Arsan Burgess; her parents, Douglas Gearen Sr. and Susie Hodge Gearen; her siblings, Leon Gearen, Douglas Gearen, Marue Gearen, Dorothy Royer, Pete Gearen and Joy Fay Hardin; and her daughter-in-law Mary Spears Burgess.
She is survived by: her grandchildren, Matthew Burgess (Brandy) of Longville and Bridgett Burgess (David Q. Williams) of DeQuincy; her great grandchildren, Kadence Burgess and James Williams of DeQuincy; her granddaughter Carolyn Langley of DeQuincy; and her daughter-in-law Bonnie Burgess Eaves of Merryville. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, January 13th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home (1810 W 4th St, Dequincy, LA 70633). A funeral service was held on Tuesday, January 13th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location. A burial was held on Tuesday, January 13th 2026 at 12:30 PM at the Rigmaiden Cemetery.
