He was predeceased by: his siblings, Marie Thompson Rucker and Raymond Edward Thompson, Jr.; and his parents, Julia Martin Thompson and Raymond Edward Thompson, Sr.. He is survived by: his wife Mary "Cookie" Thompson; his children, Jerry Alton Thompson, Jr. (Mary), Dr. Scott Edwin Thompson (Renee) and Sharon Thompson Maggard (Ervin); and his grandchildren, Ariel LaCaze Hart, Zachary Wayne LaCaze, Joshua Scott Thompson, Victoria LaCaze Brown, Caroline Cheramie Burnham and Nathanial "Buck" Linebaugh.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
