He was predeceased by: his wife Carol Ann Himel Collins; his parents, Camille Joseph Collins, Sr. and Elsie Bessie Fryou Collins; his daughter Lisa Claire Collins Melancon; his granddaughter Mary Claire Melancon; and his siblings, Camille, Jr., Kimple, Aloysius, Raphael Collins, Barbara Collins, Sylvia Collins and Maxine C. Christoffersen.
He is survived by: his children, Marty C. Collins of Houma, Cindy L. Collins of Houma and Stacy Collins Ross (Darrell) of Houma; his grandchildren, John Melancon, Jr. (Elisa) of Houston, Collin Melancon (Jillian) of Baton Rouge, Teche Melancon of Baton Rouge, Ann-Marie Ross, Caroline Ross and Katie Ross; his great grandchildren, John III, Theresa, Isabelle Melancon of Houston, Wells Gerald and Maren Melancon of Baton Rouge; his sister Sonja Collins Babin (Earl) of Houston, Texas; his sister-in-law Cathy Himel Friloux (Winfield) of Hahnville; and his son-in-law John Melancon, Sr. of Lafayette.
Viewing will be held on Saturday, October 31st 2026 from 10:30 AM to 1:00 PM at the St. Francis de Sales Cathedral (500 Goode St, Houma, LA 70360). A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, October 31st 2026 at 1:00 PM at the same location. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 31st 2026 from 1:45 PM to 2:15 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Gerald J. Collins's name to the endowment fund at Vandebilt Catholic High School.
