He is survived by : his uncle Joe; his aunt Ella Quarles; his friend Leon Boykin; his wife Junita Yvonne Willis Rhymes; his sons, Leonard Ray Rhymes, Jr. (Diane) and Laney Dale Rhymes; his grandchildren, James Randal Rhymes (Amanda), Jacob Charles Rhymes, Payton Lane Rhymes (Lauren), Michelle Lee Swiontek (Brett) and Faith Alyse Rhymes; and his great grandchild Joshua Steven Rhymes.
