He was predeceased by: his wife Lula Marie Young; his grandfather Thomas Young; his daughter Laurice Young; his mother Alida Rider Young; and his brother Herman "Nookie" Young.
He is survived by: his children, Cathy Young Zion (Harvey) of Macon, GA, Mona Young Redlich (Lowell) of Eunice, LA, Tina Young-Redlich (Lyle) of Eunice, LA and John Austin Young, Jr. (Miho) of Champaign, IL.; and his grandchildren, Michael McLaughlin (Amber), Joanna Johnson, Zachary Zion, Rachel Zion, Andrew LeBlanc, Austin LeBlanc, Emily Barclay (Jason), Ian Redlich (Megan), Caitlin Clark, Hannah Hebert (Cade), Gunther Redlich, Hans Redlich, Sage Young, Théo Young and Elena Young. He is also survived by fifteen great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 7th 2026 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Thursday, October 8th 2026 from 8:00 AM to 9:45 AM at the Ardoin's Funeral Home Chapel (1210 S Ryan Ave, Basile, LA 70515). A rosary will be held on Wednesday, October 7th 2026 at 6:00 PM at the same location. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 8th 2026 at 10:00 AM at the St. Augustine Catholic Church (2717 Dr Bobby Deshotel Ave, Basile, LA 70515). A burial will be held on Thursday, October 8th 2026 at the same location.
