He was predeceased by : his former life partner Candice Pearce Pias; his son William Dean Pias; his father George "Randy" Pias; his grandparents, Dr. Herman C Quantz, Eleanor Pearce Quantz, George M. Pias and Avice Teresa Flynn; and his great-grandparent Avice Pias.

He is survived by : his wife Brittany Caughlin Pias of Evergreen; his children, Anna Pias Fournet (John) of Evergreen and Huxley Pias of Evergreen; his mother Marilyn Merritt of Blowing Rock, NC; and his siblings, Susan Smith (Robert) of Alexandria, Katherine Henry (Greg) of Blowing Rock, NC and John Pias (Jill) of Brighton, MI..

“Dan and I first enjoyed Gil as a fun playmate for our children and then were privileged to watch him grow into a godly husband, father and Churchman with a special gift for music in worship. I have a video of him and Candy telling a former pastor goodbye in the kindest terms. I shall always remember his sweet spirit through many troubling times. —Ann Melichar”
