He was predeceased by: his parents, Willie Dewil and Thelma Dewil; and his siblings, Raymond Dewil and Jaquetta Dailey. He is survived by: his wife Jeannet Dewil; his children, Jennie Cook (Bryan) and Joe Dewil Jr.; his grandchildren, Andrew Rains (Hannah), Kathryn Kingham (Cody), Ross Cook (Kim), Emily Sparks, Amos Sparks, Joseph Sparks, Benjamin Dewil (Brie) and William Dewil (Madison); his sisters, Loretta Law (Jerl) and Cricket Withers (David); and his sister-in-law Brenda Carte (Mike). He is also survived by 4 great grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
