He was predeceased by : his wife Neva Leonard; his children, Lisa Theriot and Dennis Leonard; his grandson Aaron Theriot; his parents, Andrew Leonard and Angella Leonard; and his sister Emelda Leonard.

He is survived by : his children, Cathy Matherne (Kirk), Wendy Guidry (Joey Sr.), Emelda Crosby (Ronald) and Andrew Leonard. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
