He was predeceased by : his wife Myrtle L'lene Rascoe Sams (Aunt Sissy); his parents, Chonis Sams and Dessie Mae Rice Sams; his siblings, Ernest Sams, Emerson Sams, Edward Sams, Minnie Brown and Robena Metcalf; his parents-in-law, Rev. S. B. and Esther Lou Dykes Rascoe; and his brother-in-law T. W. "Sonny" Rascoe.

He is survived by : his sister-in-law Janette Griffis. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
