Donald Vernon Burch Obituary

HOMER, LA: Donald Vernon Burch passed away November 21, 2021 after numerous illnesses and complications from surgery.

He was born on November 19, 1952 to Vernon and Mildred Burch in St. Louis, Missouri.

He attended St. Trinity Lutheran Church growing up in St. Louis. He attended Grover Cleveland High School where he played football and was lead singer in a band. After graduation, Don worked as a children's photographer, was a finger print analysist for the FBI in Washington D.C. before joining the United States Air Force. After leaving the Air Force Don was in the first group of Homer Police Reserves. He loved this job. Don also worked at David Wade Correctional Facility for a number of years. He also worked in the oilfield.

Don loved his St. Louis Blues Hockey Team and St. Louis Cardinal Baseball team. He also became an avid New Orleans Saints fan.

Don was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Homer, Louisiana where he was an ordained Deacon. He sang in the choir for many years until he became unable to because of his physical limitations. Don had a great gift with his speaking and singing voice. He enjoyed playing many different characters in cantatas and children musicals. He played handbells at First Baptist Church for many years. He also sang in a group called the Dolce Singers.

Don loved his family more than anything. While in the Air Force Don met and married his wife of 40 years Renea after just one date. Of this marriage two children were born, Morgana Igraine Burch and Christopher Dylan Burch. He had two grandchildren who were the love of his life, Kristopher Hayden Burch and Isabella Grace Dean.

Don is survived by his wife, Renea Burch, daughter, Morgana Burch, son, Christopher Burch, grandson, Hayden Burch, granddaughter, Isabella Dean, brother Roger Burch (Sal) of Cuddlebackville, New York, sister, Jackie Williams (Don) of Fenton, Missouri, brother-in-law, Bill Peters (Mary Lou) of St. Louis, Missouri, nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother Mildred Burch, father Vernon Burch, sister Sally Gail Peters, niece, Julia Cirks, mother-in-law, Thelma Haywood, father-in-law, O.J. Haywood, and brother-in-law, J.O. Haywood.

Visitation will be Friday, November 26, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Homer, LA. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, November 27, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Homer, LA., with interment at Arlington Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Michael Allen, Ronald Day, Cody Knighton, Seth Miller, James Mulina, and Declan Beard.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Nephews: Paul Williams, Steve Peters, Geoff Burch, Jeff Mueller, Jeff Lubsch, Great Nephews: Jacob Cirks, Brandon Williams, Ryan Mueller, Jack Mueller, Jordan Williams, Jake Peters and Lucas Lubsch, Guy Walker, Eddie Emerson, Brady Allen, Damian Hembree, Dr. Cliff Salmon, Dr. Kerry Byrnes, Dr. Frederick White, Men of Calvary and Calvary Baptist Choir.

The family would like to thank Dr. Cliff Salmon, Camille Wise, NP, Denise Butler, APRNFNP-C, Dr. Kerry Byrnes, and Dr. Frederick White, for their care and compassion. The family would also like to thank Claiborne Memorial Medical Center, Fresenius, and Willis Knighton Piermont and their staff for the wonderful care they provided for Don.
