She was predeceased by: her mother Ada Hicks Mitchell; her former husband James Dwain Brown; her husband Ruben Compton, Sr.; her great grandchild Hayden Craig; her siblings, Bessie Michael and Ralph R. Mitchell; and her stepchildren, Aletha Walker, Rodney Compton and James Compton.
She is survived by: her children, James D. Brown, Jr. (Melba) of Springhill, LA, Adrian M. Compton (J.) of Lake Charles, LA, Bruce Compton (Trudy) of Shongaloo, LA and Doreen Brown Craig (Wayne) of Benton, LA; her stepsons, Ruben Compton, Jr. (Becky) and Ronnie Compton (Marilyn); and her grandchildren, Jeffrey, Joel, Derek, Brent, Robin, Morgan, Daniel, Jackson, Deanne, Jessica, Manda, Stephanie, Brier, Kathy of Chris, R. J., Andrea, Ryan, Casey, Lucas, Levi and Jason. She is also survived by numerous great-grandchildren; and along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers honoring Mrs. Compton, her family suggests memorials be made to "Love My Church" fund of First Baptist Church or Main Street Homer, 419 West Main Street, Homer, LA 71040.
