Addie Mae Washington Obituary
Addie Washington Wright Ranson Ford quietly departed this life on Thursday, November 29, 2018. Addie was born on December 18, 1947, in Donaldsonville, LA. She was the daughter of the late George Washington Jr. and the late Esterine Sandifer White. Addie spent her early adult life inOakland, CA. Upon her return to Louisiana, she enrolled at Southern University at New Orleans where she completed two years of Business Administration courses. Addie spent most of her working life in the transportation industry.
After driving 18-wheelers, she became a city bus driver with the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority (RTA). After leaving RTA, Addie would spend the next thirty-plus years as a cab driver. Her cab company "God's Property" was the catalyst to her forming long friendships with people from all over the world. In addition to owning her cab company, Addie also owned a clothing boutique store where she specialized in church attire. For over twenty-five years she also served as stage manager of the Gospel Tent at the New Orleans Jazz and Hertiage Festival.
Addie was a long-standing resident of Kenner, LA until Hurricane Katrina inundated her home with flood waters. At this time she decided to resettle in Sorrento, LA. Despite her relocation to Ascension Parish, she maintained her membership at New Home Ministries under the leadership of the late Prophet Robert C. Blakes Sr. where she served in various capacities for over forty years. As her health continued to decline, Addie spoke openly about going to the prepared place for prepared people. She is preceded in death by her husband Robert B. Ford, a daughter Stephanie Wright Watson, and a son Troy Dexter Wright.
She leaves behind a daughter Tiara Washington Konaté; three grandchildren: Irvin Watson (April), Takiera Watson Lang, Jonell Monique Watson; 14 great-grandchildren; 1 great, great grandson; siblings are: Otto Washington, Ruth Harris (Clifford), Abraham Washington, Adline Crosby (Alvin Sr.), Antonia White, George Washington, Charlene Washington, Bryant Washington, Linda Lang - all of Louisiana; Joyce Snowden (Richard), Ada Roberson (John), George V. Washington, Travis Foster (Lessie) - all of Georgia; Lionel Washington (Elsie) of San Diego, CA.
Agnes Lindsey (Matthew) of Ohio; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
