It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Francis Ortego of Krotz Springs, Louisiana, who passed away on November 6, 2025, at the age of 87, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his wife Sharon Higdon Ortego; his parents, Gilbert Joseph Ortego, Sr. and Weverly Elizabeth Soileau Ortego; his son-in-law Chris Johnson; his siblings, Leroy "Buddy" Ortego, Gilbert J. Ortego, Jr. (Wilda), Kirtley J. Ortego (Eloise) and Joyce Ortego (Carol); and his parents-in-law, Sullivan Higdon and Ellen Ardoin Higdon.
He is survived by: his children, Robert Ortego (Felicia), Ronald Ortego (Trisha), Jan Ortego Johnson and Joy Ortego Guidry (Craig); and his sisters-in-law, Verna Ortego and Joyce Burleigh. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Mr. Francis' name to Hospice of Acadiana - The Calcutta House, St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Krotz Springs, or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
