He was predeceased by: his parents, Marcel Gilbert and Orelia Gilbert; his son Darrel Gilbert; and his granddaughter Rachel Gilbert. He is survived by: his wife Dorothy Landry Gilbert; his children, Gayle Gilbert (Renetta Judice), Wayne Gilbert (Frank Flato), Ricky Gilbert (Marion), Randy Gilbert (Cheryl) and Jamie Gilbert (Denise); his brother John Gilbert; his grandchildren, Ryan Gilbert (Erienne), Chad Gilbert (Allison), Caleb Gilbert and Kristen LeBlanc (Brody); and his great grandchildren, Paige Gilbert, Neely Gilbert, Landon Gilbert, Amelie LeBlanc and Owen LeBlanc.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to St. Joseph Hospice Carpenter House in Lafayette.
