He was predeceased by: his parents, John F. McCartney and Alma Hicks; and his siblings, Noble McCartney, Faye Tatum and Selma McCartney Scott.
He is survived by: his wife Jonilu Jolley McCartney; his children, John W. McCartney, Jr. (Alice) of Hamilton, MS and Lisa Gail McCartney Swanson (Jeff) of Cleveland, TN; and his grandchildren, John Ross, Spencer, Kevin McCartney, Dustin, Kaitlin Swanson of Heather, J. J. and Lyndsey McCartney. He is also survived by great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
