Larry William Schendel Obituary

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, December 8, 2025 in First Lutheran Church of Lafayette for Larry William Schendel, 80, who passed away on December 4, 2025.

Rev. Dr. Robert Miller, Pastor of First Lutheran Church of Lafayette, will conduct the funeral services.

Burial will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park.

Larry William Schendel was born on October 22, 1945, in Crowley, Louisiana, to the late William Windhorst Schendel and Irene Blauert Schendel. He was married to Anna Katharine Wilson for 52 years and was the father of two children: Anna Kerensa Robinson (Henry) of Fred, Texas, and David Wilson Schendel (Jill) of Lafayette, Louisiana.

When he was born, Larry was so small the custodian referred to him as "Little Bit" and the nickname followed him within his family for the rest of his life.

Larry was a social worker with the State of Louisiana and worked with handicapped children; he also worked with dialysis patients; at Hospice of Acadiana, as the volunteer coordinator; at Lafayette Teen Court as the intake coordinator; and finally with Cadence of Acadiana, coordinating services for children from birth to three with special needs. He was devoted to helping others throughout his life.

Larry and Anna Katharine met at church and never had eyes for anyone else. Anna Katharine was enamored of his blue eyes and he enjoyed her piano and organ playing. They corresponded during the four years Larry served in the Navy, and married soon after his honorable discharge. Theirs was a marriage filled with love, laughter, fussing and making up. He was the "boss" in their marriage-Anna Katharine gave him permission to be! Larry and Anna Katharine loved to travel and enjoyed many ocean and river cruises as a couple and with dear friends. Larry never met a stranger, and Anna Katharine stated many times that Larry was "the goodest person" she knew... and he was.

Larry is survived by his wife, Anna Katharine Wilson Schendel; their children, Anna Kerensa Robinson (Henry), of Fred, Texas, and David Wilson Schendel (Jill) of Lafayette, Louisiana; their grandsons, Wilson Prejean, David Robinson and John Henry Robinson; his brothers, Jeffry Schendel (Joanie) of Crowley, Louisiana, and Michael Schendel (Jacqueline) of Cullman, Alabama; beloved cousins; his God-daughters, Kelly Paul and Holly Davis; his gambling wife, Linda Anson; many individuals he helped; dear friends; and his beloved dog, Lucy.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home - Bertrand on Sunday, December 7, 2025 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Visiting hours will continue at First Lutheran Church of Lafayette on Monday, December 8, 2025 from 10:00 AM until the time of service.

Pallbearers will be David Schendel, Henry Robinson, Wilson Prejean, David Robinson, John Henry Robinson, Zachary Prejean, and Michael Paul.
