He was predeceased by: his parents, Ivory and Beatrice Berry (Kaplan); and his extended family, Doris Catalon (Maurie) and Edward Catalon (Kaplan). He is survived by: his wife Deborah Vallier Hayes; his daughters, Naesa Vallier Shelvin (Thaddeus) and Ardessa Vallier; his grandson Karter Shelvin; and his sisters, Lula Campbell (Kaplan), Lillie Mae Evans (Kaplan), Annabelle Berry (Kaplan), Kizzy Issac (Lafayette) and Sadie Wheeler (Lafayette). He is also survived by nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Visitation was held on Friday, February 6th 2026 from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM at the Syrie Funeral Home (1417 E Simcoe St, Lafayette, LA 70501). A memorial service was held on Friday, February 6th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
