He was predeceased by: his parents, Samuel Julius Hurd, Sr. and Sarah Tolliver Hurd; his former wife Ida Joseph; his daughter Karen Delafose; and his siblings, Verna Foot, Grace Poret of Lafayette, Dorothy Branch, Margaret Reed of Lake Charles and Jesse Davis of Detroit Michigan.

He is survived by: his wife Ella Louise Joseph; his sons, Braylon Sr. of Houston and Rhyan of Lafayette; his sisters, Margurite Calhoun and Doreather Johnson of Lafayette; and his grandchildren, Tifani Delafose, Braylon Hurd Jr. and Caden Hurd of Houston. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, family and friends.
