He was predeceased by: his parents, Blanch Howard Butler (James Butler Sr.) and James Butler, Sr.; his brothers, Sidney James Sr., George James, Alvin Thornton and Leroy Howard; and his father-in-law Rev. Eugene Turner.
He is survived by: his former wife Cheryl Carter Butler; his wife Kim Turner Butler; his children, Raquel Butler, Rhonda Butler, Airrielle Butler Thomas (Shane), Aaron (Ayesha) and Rashad Santacruze; his grandchildren, Robriane Larry Owona (Jonathan), Tamia Taylor, Kierra, Kobe Blasé, Keith Blasé Jr., Amyri Butler, Azyri, Shane Thomas, Riley, Amir Santacruze and Astyn Richerson; his great grandchildren, Jolie Owona and Khaza Blasé; his siblings, Calvin Butler Sr. (Tennie), Ivory Butler Knight (Larry) and DianneButler Jackson; his mother-in-law Mary Weber; his siblings-in-law, Ricky Turner, Kevin Markey, Brigitte Turner (James), Lisa Turner Scott (Lonny) and Leslie Markey; his goddaughter Melinda Jackson; and his close friends, John Newman and Melvin Marsalis. He is also survived by nephews, nieces, cousins, and a host of relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 8th 2025 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Historic Bell Baptist Church (300 Hackberry St, Luling, LA 70070). A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 8th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location. A burial will be held on Saturday, November 8th 2025 at the Historic Bell Baptist Church Cemetery (300 Hackberry St, Luling, LA 70070).
