He was predeceased by: his parents, L. J. Bates and Effie Bates of Castor, Louisiana.; his wife Geneva Warren Bates of Castor; and his brothers, Wayne Bates of Jena and Jerry Bates of Hot Springs, Arkansas..
He is survived by: his sister Anna Bennett (Ralph) of Pineville; his daughters, Andrea West (Keith) of Lake Charles, Christy Gaspard (Ragan) of Lake Charles, Jill Liptak of Lake Charles and Wendy Farmer (Buck) of Lake Charles; his grandchildren, Kaci West Lindsay (Nick) of Tyler, Kileigh West Ryan (Jordon) of Beaumont, Korinne "Kori" West of Denton, Katelyn "Katey" Driskill of Lake Charles, Michael Driskill of Rockville, Justin Liptak (Abigail) of Lake Charles, Dylan Cody Liptak of Lake Charles, Eric Farmer of Lake Charles and Jessica Leccese of Thibodeaux; and his great grandchildren, Evelyn Lindsay, Haley Marulli, Nathanael Lindsay and Gabriel Marulli. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be held on Saturday, October 3rd 2026 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Johnson Funeral Home - Moss Bluff (2171 US-171, Lake Charles, LA 70611). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 3rd 2026 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the same location. A graveside service will be held on Monday, October 5th 2026 at 1:00 PM at the New Ebenezer Cemetery.
