He was predeceased by : his parents, Leonard Young and Nancy Clay Young; and his sisters, Maxine Odom Pittman, Georgia Elaine Hamley, Patsy Jo Bennett and Alma Jean Theriot.

He is survived by : his wife Elizabeth Young; his children, Crystal Kilmer Lemay (George), John A. Young, II (Charla) and Trystin "Trey" Young; his grandchildren, Ashley Wides (Robbie) and Dustin Mayfield; and his sisters, Ruth Ellis and Alice Marie Stover (Winston). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
