James Jean-Batiste Sr. Obituary

With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of James Jean-Batiste Sr. of New Iberia, Louisiana, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on July 7, 2025 at the age of 74. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Lawrence Jean-Batiste, Sr. and Maude Broussard Jean-Batiste; his sister Rita Faye Lavern; his granddaughter Mya Porter; and his sibling's children, Vonda Lavern, John Callaham and Martin Lavern.

He is survived by: his children, Darrell Porter (Pamela) of Jeanerette, LA, James Jean-Batiste, Jr. (Rachelle) of Lafayette, LA, Shawntel Corsey of Huntsville, AL, Ashley Lewis (Tremaine) of New Iberia, LA, Krystal Jean-Batiste of Palmetto, LA and Christopher Rocio of Palmetto, LA; and his brother Lawrence Jean-Batiste, Jr. (Peggy) of New Iberia, LA. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 19th 2025 from 8:00 AM to 9:45 AM at the Saint Katherine Drexel Family Life Center (175 Ambassador W Lemell Dr, New Iberia, LA 70560). A rosary will be held on Saturday, July 19th 2025 at 9:00 AM at the same location. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, July 19th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the same location.
