David left this world on November 3, 2025 at the age of 68, leaving a void in the lives of so many people. He was predeceased by: his parents, Lillian Daret Smith and Joseph Marcus Smith; and his brother Arthur "Smitty" Smith of Chalmette, LA.. He is survived by: his wife Debbie Smith of Slidell, Louisiana.; his son Joseph Arthur Smith of Slidell, LA.; his stepsons, Eddie Chagnard of New Orleans, LA and Jeffrey Chagnard of Denver, CO; his grandchildren, Dru and Kayleigh Chagnard of Slidell, LA; his sister Deidre Smith Seghers (Dwayne); his siblings-in-law, Jeanne Smith of Franklinton, LA, Craig Clement of New Orleans, LA, Walter McKnight and Gwen McKnight of Slidell, LA; and his friend Roland Belsome. He is also survived by numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family, and friends.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 10th 2025 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Jacob-Schoen Funeral Home (3827 Canal St, New Orleans, LA 70119). A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 10th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the same location. An entombment will be held on Monday, November 10th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at the Greenwood Cemetery (5190 Canal Blvd, New Orleans, LA 70124).
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Dave by donating to Feed the Children or Wounded Warriors or by sharing a cup of coffee and a donut with a friend, telling a great story, and cherishing the time God gives us with the ones we love!
