He was predeceased by: his wife Gillian Richardson; his sister Lorna Kammerhofer; and his parents, Henry John Sullivan and Marie Antoinette Sullivan. He is survived by: his former wife Ellie Ragland; his close friend Myriam Saunders; the mother of his child Ellie Ragland; his daughter Caroline Alexandra Choudhury (Anup); his grandsons, Aunindya and Auchinto; his sons, Ed, Ollie and Kim; his grandchildren, Lyla and Giles; and his nephew Anthony Kammerhofer (Irene).
He also received five fellowships over the course of his career from places like the United States Government, the Alexander Humboldt Foundation, and the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation, and he received two fellowships from Clare Hall College.
