Sonja Foucher De La Rose Obituary
Sonja Foucher De La Rose, 82, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 14, 2026 surrounded by her loving care team at Ochsner Baptist ICU at 8:42 pm CST. Born on December 14, 1943 in New Orleans, Sonja was the eldest of four children born into the union of the late Noel, Sr. and Bessie (Moret) Foucher. She began her career as an eligibility Case Worker for the State of Louisiana Welfare Office, after completing Straight Business School in Treme', where she inspired and managed countless cases for members of the New Orleans community who needed her services.
Devoted wife of the late Calvin "Mr. D." De La Rose, Sr., for 35 years. Loving mother of Shayla and Calvin De La Rose, Sr.
Sister of Noel, Jr., Thaddeus and Ava Foucher. She will be remembered for her warm smile, small talk, and generosity. In addition to her children Sonja also leaves to cherish her memory a host of nieces, nephews, cousins near and far, other relatives and friends.
Relatives and Friends; Priest and parishioners of St Peter Claver, Our Lady of Guadalupe and Immaculate Conception JesuitParishes; Staff and employees of St. Peter Claver School; Alumni of Xavier University Preparatory Class of 1960; members of Disabled American Veterans and Auxiliary from Chapter #15, #17, #23 and Unit #17; Autocrat Social Aid and Pleasure Club are invited to attend the funeral. A Mass of Christian burial honoring the life and legacy of the late Sonja Foucher De La Rose will be held at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, 1923 St. Philip Street, New Orleans, LA 70116 on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at 10 am. Interment Lake Lawn Cemetery (All Saints Mausoleum), 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70124.
