He was predeceased by: his stepfather Joby Scarr. He is survived by: his wife Sharon Adams Smith; his children, Mary Fraser Smith Royall (Lee), Christi Brewer (Lonnie), Edwin Bomer Smith III, Katherine Smith Hill, Scott Hudson Smith and Haley Morgan Barnes (Jonathan); and his sister Lillian Scarr White. He is also survived by his wife, six children, eleven grandchildren.
