With heavy hearts, we announce the death of James Allen Smith (Opelousas, Louisiana), born in Hot Springs, Arkansas, who passed away on June 22, 2025 at the age of 79. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, James Millard Smith and Lois Taylor Smith; his brothers, John Millard Smith (Hannah Ala Smith), Daniel Ellis Smith (Mary Stratham Smith) and Morris Smith; his nephew Brian Smith; and his sister-in-law Kai Shively Maroof.
He is survived by: his wife Etta Gwynne Shively Smith; his son Theodore Scott Smith; his daughter-in-law Rachel Crowell Smith of Arnaudville, Louisiana; his grandsons, Hadley Smith of Lafayette and Jack Smith of Knoxville, Tennessee.; his nephew Owen Smith; his nieces, Whitley Smith of Little Rock and Kristen Watts (John) of Shreveport; his great-nieces and great-nephews, Hayden Watts of Dallas and Jake Watts of New Orleans; his aunts, Juanita Davison and Marlene Taylor of Malvern, Arkansas.; and also Sarah Smith.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 28th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home (2845 S Union St, Opelousas, LA 70570). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 28th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Seniors Helping Seniors of Sunset, Louisiana or to the St. Peter Claver Knights of Columbus Building Fund.
