He was predeceased by: his wife Catherine Jo Sterling Avery; his parents, W. J. Erwin, Sr. and Frances Nelle Avery Erwin; his siblings, Frances Nelle Erwin Evans, W. J. Erwin, Jr. and Anne Erwin Giering; and his great grandchild Garrett Thompson.
He is survived by: his daughters, Debbie Avery Kidd and Jackie Mathews; his siblings-in-law, E. J. Giering and Mary Wright; his grandchildren, Larabee Kidd Thompson (Patrick) and Joshua Kidd (Stephanie); and his great grandchildren, Avery Thompson, Madison Kidd, Nate Thompson, Hayden Kidd and Cameron Kidd. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
