He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Grady Vail and Mary Lois Vail (Kelley); his siblings, Lurline Whitten, Donald Ray Vail, James "Cotton" Vail and Richard "Dickie" Vail; and his son-in-law Jeff Hammons.
He is survived by: his wife Barbara Vail (Grissom); his daughters, Cindy Hammons and Angie Horn (Greg); his grandchildren, Ashley Hines (Jeff), Daniel Hammons (Mollye), Samantha Taylor (Josh) and Mallory Willis (Caleb); his great grandchildren, Alley Hines, Evelyn Hammons, Jacob Hammons, Logan Hammons, Colby Taylor, Mason Taylor, Liam Willis and Gideon Willis; and his brother Kenneth Vail.
