He was predeceased by : his parents, Silas Ladrick Carpenter and Octavia McGee Carpenter; his wife Lora Fontenot Carpenter; and his siblings, Ollie Carpenter, Evana C. Reed, Opal C. Reed, Cecil M. Carpenter, Leona C. Manuel and Alton Carpenter.

He is survived by : his children, Johnny Lee Carpenter (Teresa) of Ragley, Billy Ray Carpenter (Jill) of Pensacola, Florida and Mona Carpenter Orloski (Bill) of Monroe, Louisiana; his granddaughters, Maddi Lora Carpenter and Sydney Lynn Carpenter; his great grandchildren, Saylor, Ellie and Kingston; his stepgranddaughter Lacey Freeman Smithson; and his caregiver Katie.
