He was predeceased by: his wife Joann L. Bennett Powell; his parents, John T. Powell and Edna Sumrall Powell; his siblings, Joyce Pearson, Minnie Faye McMorris, Ethel Mae Cutrer and Dwight "Chuck" Powell; and his foster children, Kelly Dykes and Krystal Dykes Hill.
He is survived by: his children, Brian B. Powell (Christy), Barry D. Powell Sr. (Marie) and Beverly L. Powell; his grandchildren, Desirae Marie Flanagan, Brian Michael Powell (Summer), Barry D. Powell Jr. (Amanda), Morgan Rivet (Jake), Devin Powell, Shay Morgan (Charlie), Nathan Weir, Caleb Lucas and Irma Shelby Hyde; his great grandchildren, Jared Tate Flanagan, Ryliegh Paige Powell, Jaxson Kyle Flanagan, Morgan Lee Powell and Charlee Rae Morgan; his sisters, Kathy Hilburn (Ronny) and Linda Simmons; and his pet Bandit.
