He was predeceased by: his mother Frances Marie Jones Sparks; and his grandparents, James, Lillie Sparks, Walter and Lottie Jones.

He is survived by: his father James Dilling Sparks, Jr.; his siblings, James Dilling Sparks, III (Julie Ann), Mary Howell Sparks Coon, Frances Holloman Sparks (Fran) and PJ; his nieces and nephews, Thad Carter Sparks, Laura Lillie Sparks, Mary Frances Coon Landry (Garrett), Caroline Carter Coon Morris (Brennan) and Clayton Jefferson Turpin; and his great-nieces and great-nephews, John Michael Landry, Lillie Marie Landry, Farrington Frances Landry, Mary Holloman Landry and Elizabeth Carter Morris.
