He was predeceased by: his son William J. Cool; his parents, Robert Gerald and Lydia Colvin Cool; and his sisters, Ruth Cool and Shirley Sampson.
He is survived by: his wife Sally Allsbury Cool; his son Robert A. Cool; and his stepchildren, Debra Coler, Randall Selby and Timothy Selby. He is also survived by eight step-grandchildren.
