He was predeceased by: his parents, Fernand Toups and Vivian Toups. He is survived by: his wife Verna Toups; his sons, Michael Toups and Stephen Toups (Kerry); and his grandchildren, Taylor, Noelle and Erin Toups.

“So sorry to hear he has passed and for your family's loss. He made a big impact on my life at Nicholls and beyond in my 21 year teaching career. Dr Toups was the best English teacher ever! His Shakespeare classes were on fire. His love for Shakespeare and teaching were such a gift to all of his students. He had a kind heart with grading a non speller as well back in the days of blue book exams. I can't think of Shakespeare without thinking of him. I will remember him always.”

“So sorry to hear of Noel's passing. He was more than a family member, he was part of our fond memories.. Our visits to Thibodaux always included a visit to see Verna and Noel. Then there were many get togethers during our visits. Noel was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a true southern gentleman, a honored scholar, and a loyal friend. Elllis and I will miss him.”
