He was predeceased by : his parents, Maurice J. Hymel, Sr. and Anna Tregre Hymel; his siblings, Maurice J. Hymel, Jr., Marie Therese Hymel, Lynn G. Hymel, Lester G. "Yute" Hymel and Maisy H. Becnel; and his brother-in-law Richard Folse.

He is survived by : his wife Sylvia Waguespack Hymel; his son Hymel, Jr. (Lea); his grandsons, Francis "Trey" Hymel, III (Lani) and Brendon Stevens (Scott); his great grandchild Paisley Grace Hymel; his pet Louis; his siblings, Stella Hymel Folse, Katherine Hymel Vincent (Gary) and Raymond V. "Pete" Hymel (Catherine); and his brother-in-law Raymond Becnel.
