He was predeceased by: his granddaughter Reese Monroe Magnes. He is survived by: his wife Marguerite "Sis" (Sudduth); his children, John "Dirk" Ortego and Michelle Ortego Magnes (Ryan); his grandchildren, Dean, Vivian, Vance, Grayson and Layne; and his sister Vera Prudhomme.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 7th 2026 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Thursday, October 8th 2026 from 8:00 AM to 10:30 AM at the LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home (2845 S Union St, Opelousas, LA 70570). A rosary will be held on Wednesday, October 7th 2026 from 6:00 PM to 6:30 PM at the same location. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, October 8th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church (330 E Moundville St, Washington, LA 70589).
