He was predeceased by: his wife Patsy Coates; his mother Bertha May Trichell; his stepfather Lloyd Trichell; his grandparents, Alson and Mary Lou Coates; and his grandson Cody Coates.
He is survived by: his sons, Carl Raymond (Debra), Michael Dwain (Delana) and James Edward (Kelly); and his siblings, Lloyd Trichell Jr. and Shera Anders. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and a host of extended family.
