Carilyn Ashcroft Obituary
Mrs. Carilyn Tarver Ashcroft, age 97 of Winnfield, Louisiana passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2025.
Born Sunday, September 18, 1927 in Norphlet, Arkansas, she was preceded in death by her parents, Reece Tarver and Ina Mae Keese Tarver; husbands, B.L. Horton and R.R. "Dick" Ashcroft; children, Dianna Horton Weego and Robert Leonard Horton; twin sister, Marilyn Voorhies.
Mrs. Ashcroft was a member of First United Methodist Church of Winnfield and was retired from the Winn Parish school system as a teacher, having earned her Master's +30 degree. As an active member of the community, she also participated in the Pilot Club, Lions Club, Delta Kappa Gamma, Readers Review, Winn Retired Teachers, and many other community organizations. Mrs. Ashcroft also served on the Winn Parish Fair Board.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Jimmy Horton (Jeannie) of Jena, LA and Liz Shows (Mike) of Broussard, LA; grandchildren, Michelle Terry, Chris Weego, Cari Owens, Jennifer McVeigh, Matt Horton, Hannah Ranton, Melissa Sealy, Christina Bounds and Paighton Rhodes; 21 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield with Rev. Joel Carter officiating. Interment will follow in Garden of Memories, Winnfield.
Matt Horton, Chris Weego, Payne Weego, Landon Cockerham, Rick Bounds and Cass Ranton will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM and again on Wednesday from 12:00 Noon until time of services.
