He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, James Albert Dailey and Frances Wallace Dailey (Borton); his wife Barbara Dailey (Ritter); his son Samuel Borton Dailey; his sister Sarah Elizabeth Brabson; his nephews, Allen and Evan Dailey; his cousins, Schuyler Borton and Mary Dakos; and his brother Timothy Borton Dailey. He was also cherished by his family, friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Groton School (Groton Fund), or to the New England Conservatory of Music (NEC Fund).
