He was predeceased by : his parents, Salvatore and Maria (Giacona); his siblings, Santo, Angelina and Santina; his aunts, Mary and Grace; his wife Regina LaCasse; his sons, Joseph J Messina and Alfred C Messina; and his granddaughter Andrea Messina.

He is survived by : his brother Alfred; his son Sal Messina; his grandchildren, Matt Messina and Laura Reilly; his brother Joseph Messina; his daughters, Brenda Staub (Jakob) and Judy Elliott (Jack); his grandchildren, Sarah, Michael, Roberta, Carolyn, Allie, Morgan, Alex, Caitlin, Nikos and Joel; his friend Lynn Steuernagle; his caregivers, Rosy Diaz and Pete Cartier; and also Sal Messina (Jessica). He is also survived by 9 Great Grandchildren, a Great Great Grandchild, many nieces and nephews.
