He was predeceased by: his father Arthur A. Smith; his sister Elizabeth Szidloski; and his stepfather Edward Carrigan Jr.. He is survived by: his children, Joseph Smith Jr. of Millville, MA, Debra Costa of Brooksville, FL and Sharon Rock of Homosassa, FL; his siblings, John Smith of New Hampshire and Ruth McLain of Arizona; his half-siblings, Ellen Carrigan, Edward Carrigan III, Erin C. Paul, Sean Carrigan Sr., Patricia Carrigan and Michael Carrigan of Louisiana; and his partner's children, Daniel Webster and Gayle Webster. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
